Merrymount Park Boardwalk Project

This project will need a '401 Water Quality Certificate' and a 'Chapter 91 Waterways License/Permit' among other permits.  When the applicant applies for these permits, they will post on MEPA's website as did the ENF. The notices will be found at the bottom of this page under 'PUBLIC NOTICES'.  We'll monitor this site to determine when these applications are submitted by Tighe & Bond; they too may require public comments.

Dear Quincy Residents:

A huge thank you to the over 100 Quincy residents that took the time to send public comments to MEPA about the bridge to Pine Island.

We also would like to thank the Quincy Tree Alliance and Quincy Climate Action Network; two organizations who jumped right in and worked alongside us to get information to residents allowing them to make public comments to MEPA.

Here are MEPA's recommendations as well as the public comments to read over. All recent decisions from MEPA can be found here.

Please, plan to attend the Quincy Conservation Committee meeting on Wednesday, July 7th.  Third item: 1 Merrymount Parkway

Those who attended the June 2 Quincy Conservation Commission meeting know that there was considerable public opposition to this project. This was before many residents even knew of the project.

At the June 2 meeting, the Quincy Conservation Commission decided to push out their decision until they heard MEPA's determination.  Although MEPA as an agency cannot stop a project; a quick glance at the determination shows they have heard our concerns, as this ENF did not receive a simple pass.

This bridge to Pine Island came out of a greater Merrymount Park project that the Council voted on in 2017. Councillor Phelan was quoted in a recent Ledger article as saying "There was so much in that plan, I don't think anyone totally realized what they were voting on."

In the meantime Councillor Phelan introduced a 'Resolve' against the Pine Island Bridge at a recent council meeting. Councillors Mahoney, Andronico, Palmucci, and DiBona signed on to that resolution and it was approved by the entire council.

The Quincy Conservation Committee CAN stop this project; it is important to attend their meeting on Wednesday, July 7th. We will send the zoom link prior to that meeting as a reminder.

We will keep you updated on this project moving forward. Any questions or comments, please email us at quincymakingwaves@gmail.com

Thank you,
